Terraces 3 & 5
The historical heart of the vineyard is surrounded by satellite plots. We navigate our way through these vine parcels as if it were an archipelago, alternating between gravelly areas, small pebbles and sand. Each soil reveals its own unique character and we aim to encourage this versatility.
62% of the vineyard
Short, orbicular leaf
Winged clusters of small grapes
Black fruits, blackcurrant, cedar, liquorice
The gravel outcrops on which Terraces 3 and 5 are situated provide ideal growing conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The arid soils have good drainage properties and produce wines with excellent structure and fresh aromas.
36% of the vineyard
Round, cuneiform leaf
Long and well-aerated clusters
Red fruits, strawberry, cherry, plum
Crunchy, round and succulent. The Merlots grown in these fine gravel soils show a very seductive style. The cool soils of the lower slopes are particularly well-suited to this varietal. The vines need to be worked with precision in order to retain the juicy aromas of the fruit. Good volume, a smooth structure and intense aromas make this a real treat for the senses.
1% of the vineyard
Shiny, orbicular leaf
Small, loose clusters
Small red fruits, raspberry, violet
Some of these vines were planted as far back as 1968 and they add a touch of colour and vibrancy to the domaine’s landscapes. Our Cabernet Francs are grown in gravel soils with a clay subsoil resulting in wines with exceptional finesse and tension combined with fruity, sometimes floral notes. A very valuable addition to the blend.
